NANS Protests Against South African Firms in Nigeria

The Nigerian Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by President Akintey Babatund, has declared a nationwide protest against South African businesses operating in Nigeria, specifically targeting MTN, MultiChoice, and Stanbic IBTC. This action is a response to perceived xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

NANS has threatened to shut down operations of these companies and is mobilizing students across Nigeria to ensure the protests are effective. The organization has called for Nigerian citizens to close their accounts with Stanbic IBTC and to support indigenous companies instead.

The protests are intended to be peaceful, emphasizing that violence is not a solution. NANS has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the South African government to take action to protect Nigerian businesses and citizens.

The protests are also supported by various lawmakers, including Senator Adam Oshiomhole and Asuquo Ekpenyong, who have called for stronger actions against South African interests in Nigeria.
