NANS Issues 4-Day Ultimatum to South African Businesses

The Nigerian Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given South African business interests a four-day ultimatum to evacuate Nigeria. This decision was announced in a statement on Monday in Enugu by Bestman Okereafor, the Executive Director of NANS.

The ultimatum is a response to ongoing xenophobic attacks and intimidation faced by Nigerians in South Africa, which NANS claims has led to numerous assaults and even murders of Nigerians. Okereafor emphasized that South Africans cannot continue to oppress Nigerians while expecting to conduct business in Nigeria.

If the ultimatum expires without compliance, NANS has indicated that they may resort to picketing South African businesses and taking further actions. The association also called on the federal government and the African Union to take decisive actions against South Africa for its treatment of Nigerians.

This situation follows a history of support from Nigeria to South Africa during the apartheid struggle, which NANS feels has been met with disrespect.
