Delta Governor Approves ₦2m Grant for Xenophobia Victims

On Friday, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved a comprehensive welfare package for victims of xenophobic attacks in South Africa who are from Delta State. Each affected family will receive a one-time grant of ₦2 million, while individual returnees will receive monthly stipends of ₦200,000, and families will receive ₦300,000 monthly, starting from August 2026 until the end of the governor’s first tenure on May 29, 2027.

During the reception of the returnees at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Oborevwori, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Johnson Erijo, condemned the xenophobic violence and expressed sympathy for the victims. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the safe evacuation of the Nigerians.

The state government will also provide free medical screenings and trauma counseling for the returnees. Hon Ejiro Etacherure, the Commissioner for Special Duties, assured the returnees of the government's commitment to their reintegration and rebuilding of their lives.
