Xi Jinping Meets KMT Leader to Strengthen Ties

On Friday morning, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the Kuomintang (KMT), in Beijing. This meeting marked the first visit by a KMT chairperson to the Chinese mainland in a decade. Xi emphasized the significance of developing relations between the two parties across the Taiwan Strait, stating that despite changing international landscapes, the overarching trend toward the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation remains unchanged. He expressed a willingness to work with political parties in Taiwan, including the KMT, to promote peace and improve cross-strait relations. Xi reiterated the importance of adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing Taiwan independence. Cheng acknowledged that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China and called for efforts to foster peace and development in cross-strait relations. The meeting included discussions on enhancing exchanges and cooperation across various fields to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
