YABATECH Urges New Leaders to Embrace Integrity and Innovation

At an induction workshop, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), tasked newly elected deans and heads of departments with embracing integrity and innovation to transform the institution.

He emphasized the need for a mindset shift to achieve university status and rank among Nigeria's top universities as YABATECH approaches its 80th anniversary. Dr.

Abdul highlighted the importance of leadership at the departmental and school levels, urging leaders to promote academic excellence, discourage outdated teaching methods, and foster critical thinking and research among students and staff. He declared a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and exploitation of students, warning department heads to be accountable for any infractions.

Additionally, he directed departments to be transparent regarding charges payable by students and to prepare for participation in a student loan scheme. Dr.

Abdul called for a conducive learning environment, free from toxicity and victimization, and encouraged the establishment of confidential reporting channels for misconduct. He also urged academic leaders to explore innovative revenue-generating opportunities within their departments.
