Yari: Politicians Promising Subsidy Restoration Mislead Nigerians

Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the Director General of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserted that any politician, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who promises to restore the petrol subsidy is deceiving Nigerians. Yari's comments came during a visit from the APC's National Working Committee in Abuja.

He pointed out that the 2023 budget, approved by the National Assembly before President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023, did not include provisions for a subsidy. Yari criticized the previous subsidy regime as costly and lacking transparency, questioning how any government could sustain it without a clear financial framework.

He highlighted the significant financial implications of the subsidy, estimating it at around N20 trillion annually, and noted the absence of accurate data on fuel consumption. Yari emphasized that the APC campaign would focus on factual achievements rather than personal attacks against opponents.
