YEEP Alumni Nigeria Advocates for Peace Investment

On September 21, YEEP Alumni Nigeria issued a statement advocating for greater investment in peacebuilding, violence prevention, and youth participation as the world observed the International Day of Peace 2026. The statement, themed “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” underscored the group's commitment to fostering a peaceful, safe, and inclusive Nigeria.

YEEP Alumni Nigeria, comprising young Nigerians focused on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), articulated that peace should encompass more than just the absence of violence; it should involve creating communities where individuals can live with dignity and express their views freely. The organization highlighted ongoing challenges in Nigeria, including violence, insecurity, and division, and stressed the importance of investing in prevention rather than waiting for violence to occur.

They called for stronger dialogue, tolerance, and respect, urging stakeholders to create opportunities for youth leadership and participation in decision-making processes. The group also encouraged young people to reject violence and embrace peaceful engagement.
