Yobe Governor Buni Advocates for Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections

On September 21, 2026, Yobe State Governor Mai Buni, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), called for sustained investment in peacebuilding and dialogue to ensure peaceful participation in Nigeria's 2027 general elections. This appeal was made during the 2026 International Day of Peace Commemoration in Abuja, organized under the United Nations theme, ‘Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.’ Buni highlighted Yobe's efforts in strengthening its peace architecture, including early warning and response mechanisms, responsible technology use, conflict management, and peace education.

He noted that these initiatives are crucial despite challenges posed by conflict entrepreneurs. Buni affirmed Yobe's commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu's administration, focusing on durable peace and democratic consolidation.

Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, Director-General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, emphasized that peace requires continuous investment in people and institutions.
