WANEP-Nigeria Advocates for Youth Leadership Investment

WANEP-Nigeria, represented by National Network Coordinator Dr. Bridget Osakwe, marked the annual observance of International Youth Day by emphasizing the critical role of young people aged 18 to 35 in Nigeria, who make up over half of the population.

The organization celebrates their contributions to peacebuilding, civic engagement, and community development while acknowledging the challenges they face, such as unemployment, insecurity, and limited participation in decision-making. Dr.

Osakwe stated that investing in youth is essential for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria. She urged government institutions, development partners, and civil society to enhance investments in youth leadership, education, and civic participation.

WANEP-Nigeria is committed to promoting the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security and has expanded its engagement with universities through awareness campaigns and policy dialogues. The observance serves as a reminder of the shared aspirations of young people for peace, opportunity, and inclusion.
