Yenagoa to Host Rescheduled 2025 National Wrestling Classics

The 2025 National Wrestling Classics will take place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, from March 25 to April 1, 2025. This championship was rescheduled from its original date in December 2025 following the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

The Bayelsa State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation led by President Dr. Bashir Adeniyi, has finalized arrangements for the event.

It is described as one of the best championships in the history of Nigerian wrestling. The competition is expected to feature participation from 30 states and 10 clubs, including military and paramilitary institutions.

Teams are encouraged to submit their contingent lists promptly to ensure full preparation. The event will also serve as a platform for selecting representatives for the African Wrestling Championship scheduled in Alexandria, Egypt, in late April to early May 2026.

The Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classic has been recognized as one of the longest-running national championships in the country, playing a significant role in talent discovery and elite athlete development.
