COAS Shaibu: New Strategies Needed for Security Challenges

During the graduation ceremony of the Leadership and Strategic Studies Course 4/25 at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) in Abuja, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, asserted that the evolving security environment necessitates new approaches, as yesterday’s solutions will not suffice for tomorrow’s challenges. He highlighted the complexity of current threats, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and cyber threats, which intersect with broader political, economic, and social dynamics.

Shaibu emphasized the importance of military officers developing innovative responses that integrate both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies. He praised the course's structure, which combined theoretical instruction with practical case studies, enabling participants to analyze contemporary security challenges critically.

Major General James Myam (rtd), Director General of NARC, noted that the 11-month program was initiated to fill a training gap identified by Army Headquarters, equipping officers with the strategic knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address Nigeria's security challenges.
