Yiaga Africa to Deploy Observers for Osun Election

Yiaga Africa, an election observation group, announced its plan to deploy 300 stationary observers and 32 roving observers across the 30 local government areas of Osun State for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15. Safiya Bichi, the Head of Knowledge Management and Learning at Yiaga Africa, made this announcement in Osogbo during a Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and media engagement event.

The observers will utilize Yiaga Africa’s Sample-Based Observation (SBO) methodology, which involves placing observers at selected polling units to independently verify the credibility of the electoral process and confirm that the votes cast align with the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Bichi also mentioned that a pre-election assessment conducted by Yiaga Africa identified emerging trends, particularly security-related incidents, that could potentially impact the conduct of the election.
