Young Innovators in Yobe Redefine Governance with Tech

In Damaturu, Yobe State, 200 young innovators convened to redefine governance using artificial intelligence and technology. The event, themed "Transforming Nigeria's Local Governance," showcased small grants for big ideas aimed at tackling governance challenges in the northeast.

Mu Azu, CEO of Spotlight, announced that 25 exceptional youth were selected for civic innovation awards, with Dr. Kole Shettima receiving a grant of $100,000 to launch a community project. The outcomes of these initiatives are expected to exceed expectations, with a focus on transparency and accountability.

Among the standout innovations were a budget solution app to help citizens track government spending and a healthcare application to assist underserved areas. The summit also inspired two participants to apply for fellowships, returning this year with impressive success stories.

The event was supported by organizations such as Leap Africa and the Nigeria Youth Future Fund, emphasizing the vibrant potential of civic participation and tech-driven solutions in the region.
