Yobe Emir Leads Prayer for Rain Amid Farming Crisis

The Yobe Emir led a special prayer at the Tanda prayer ground, attended by the Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Islamic scholars, district and ward heads, community leaders, and hundreds of worshippers. The congregation prayed for beneficial rainfall, abundant harvests, and protection from drought.

Sheikh Haruna Ibrahim Shina, Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Yobe State, and Mallam Sagiru Dake Zango also led separate prayer sessions for rain. The delayed rainfall has significantly slowed farming activities, leaving many farmers unable to cultivate and depriving farm laborers of income.

Unlike previous years, when the rainy season began by late July, this year’s erratic rainfall has forced many farmers to postpone planting. Laborers reported returning home without work due to limited farming activities.

Farmers like Bukar Abba and Adamu Mustapha expressed struggles from last year’s losses and rising costs of inputs, compounding the challenges posed by the delayed rains.
