Potiskum Residents Demand Completion of Abandoned Hospital Unit

Residents of Potiskum, Yobe State, have voiced their disappointment regarding the prolonged abandonment of the accident emergency unit project at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital, which began construction several years ago. The project, allegedly sponsored by Hon.

Fatima Talba, a member of the National Assembly representing Potiskum Federal Constituency, aimed to enhance emergency healthcare services in the area. However, the incomplete facility has raised concerns among residents, particularly given the frequency of accidents along major highways surrounding the town.

Adamu Ibrahim, a local resident, highlighted the urgent need for the unit, stating that families often struggle to find immediate medical attention during emergencies. Usman Sadiq, a commercial driver, emphasized the difficulties faced by health workers in managing accident cases without a fully functional emergency unit.

Additionally, shop owner Muhammad Mato pointed out the security risks posed by the abandoned structure, which has become a hideout for criminals. Gambo Ibrahim, a nurse at the hospital, stressed the critical role of the emergency unit in responding to life-threatening situations.

Residents are appealing to relevant authorities to ensure the project's completion.
