Akpabio Mocks Obi for Abandoning 6 Million Votes

On Tuesday, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, criticized former presidential candidate Peter Obi for allegedly abandoning six million votes to seek a new party affiliation, which he claimed undermines the political structure and stability of the party. Akpabio's remarks were made during a session with the New Nigeria Revenue Service and have been interpreted as a direct reference to Obi's actions following the 2023 presidential elections, where Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, contested under the Labour Party platform and is currently seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Amid controversy surrounding social media posts attributed to Akpabio, he noted that these comments were misunderstood and taken out of context. He emphasized that individuals are free to support any political party when seeking public office, highlighting the dynamic nature of political affiliations in Nigeria.
