Youth Group Demands Security Measures After Plateau Killings

The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYIP) expressed grief and outrage over the recent killings in the Agwan Rukuba area of Plateau State. In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, NYIP Chairman Hon. Felix Idowu and Comrade Dotun Omoley urged security agencies to adopt a proactive stance rather than a reactive response strategy to prevent further violence.

The group proposed the establishment of community resilience initiatives against terrorism, including a framework for local vigilance, early warning systems, and real-time communication channels with security agencies. Additionally, the NYIP emphasized the importance of an independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming 2027 general elections, urging the commission to engage stakeholders to build confidence in the electoral system.

The statement called for collective action at the leadership level to address insecurity and enhance electoral integrity while empowering youth to actively safeguard their communities.
