Zamfara Proposes Victims’ Support Fund for Peacebuilding

The Zamfara State Government has called for the creation of a Victims’ Support Fund as part of its security and peacebuilding strategy. Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, Secretary to the State Government and newly appointed Chairman of the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Peace and Security Committee, made this announcement during the committee's inauguration in Gusau, led by Governor Dauda Lawal's deputy, Malam Mani Malam Mummuni.

Nakwada stressed the importance of a structured DDR framework that aligns with national efforts and does not neglect victims of violence. He outlined the need for transparent support for affected communities, including rehabilitation and livelihood restoration.

Following the inauguration, Nakwada led a delegation to inspect the North-West DDR Camp for Operation Safe Corridor in Tsafe, a facility funded by the Zamfara State Government. Ambassador Sergio Jaramillo, former Colombian National Security Adviser, expressed his team's commitment to collaborating with the Zamfara State Government to address security challenges.
