Zelensky Criticizes IOC After Ukrainian Athlete Disqualified

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly condemned the disqualification of Ukrainian athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych, who wore a helmet featuring images of fallen Ukrainian sportsmen. In a sharp statement posted on social media, Zelensky criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC), accusing its leadership of indirectly benefiting Russia through their decisions.

He argued that this move contradicts the core ideals of the Olympics, which are rooted in fairness and the promotion of peace in sports, rather than serving as an excuse to forget these principles. Zelensky praised Heraskevych's actions, describing the helmet as a tribute to athletes who lost their lives amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

He emphasized that Heraskevych violated no rules and pointed out that Russia has repeatedly breached Olympic principles while continuing military actions during the games. Zelensky insisted that the Olympic movement should contribute to ending the war rather than serving political interests.
