Nigeria's 10th Assembly Passes 363 Bills in Three Years

The 10th National Assembly of Nigeria has achieved a record legislative output by introducing 2,747 bills since its inauguration in June 2023, with 363 bills passed. This marks the highest legislative activity since Nigeria's return to democratic rule in 1999.

The breakdown of legislative activity reveals that during its first session, 1,351 bills were introduced, including 12 executive bills and 1,336 private member bills, with three Senate bills. In the second session, lawmakers sponsored 912 bills, comprising 14 executive bills, 868 private member bills, and 30 Senate bills, with 148 bills passed.

The third session saw the introduction of 484 bills, including 31 executive bills, 391 private member bills, and 62 Senate bills, with 126 bills passed. Landmark legislation passed includes the 2026 Appropriations Act, constitutional amendments, and the Minimum Wage Act.

The assembly aims to prioritize constitutional amendments and electoral reforms in the upcoming fourth session.
