1,178 Out-of-School Children Sponsored in Yobe State

Former President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, has initiated an education intervention programme that has successfully sponsored 1,178 out-of-school children back to school in Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State. This initiative, named “Second Chance: A Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan (SAIL) Foundation Education Development Initiative,” aims to assist vulnerable children across the Yobe North Senatorial District.

The programme will fully fund the secondary education of the beneficiaries, who are drawn from 17 secondary schools in Nguru. The sponsorship includes coverage for school fees, school bags, textbooks, uniforms, and sandals.

During the launch of the initiative, Lawan expressed his belief that no child should be denied access to education due to poverty or other challenges, emphasizing that education is a vital investment in youth. He urged parents and guardians to support their children in completing their education.

This intervention addresses the pressing issue of the high number of out-of-school children in northern Nigeria, exacerbated by poverty, insecurity, and limited educational access.
