Mowe Residents Urge NERC to Address 18-Month Power Outage

Residents of Itesiwaju Omu Arogun Area Community Development Committee (IOAACDC), near Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, have been without electricity for over 18 months. They have appealed to the Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for intervention.

The prolonged outage has forced some residents to relocate to Lagos and Abeokuta in search of better living conditions. The Owode Egba feeder, which supplies electricity to the community, is reportedly operating below capacity, receiving only five to six megawatts from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), while it requires between 13 and 15 megawatts.

Sanuth Haroun Oladipupo, District Manager of the Ashimolowo, Mowe/Ibafo Business Hub, acknowledged the poor supply and stated efforts are being made to improve the situation. Residents previously petitioned NERC about three years ago, but the directive for IBEDC to address the issue has not been implemented.

Kazeem Teniola, a local fashion designer, shared that the blackout forced him to relocate his family to Bariga, Lagos.
