18-Year-Old Herder Killed in Plateau State Attack

On Wednesday at approximately 1 p.m., an attack in Nyarwai village, Fan District of Barkin Ladi local government area in Plateau State resulted in the death of 18-year-old herder Yakubu Ishaku and the shooting of about 18 cattle. The incident was confirmed by Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), who described the attack as “one too many.” He emphasized that this incident represents another painful loss of life and livelihood, threatening the fragile peace in the region.

MACBAN urged security agencies to investigate the incident, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure accountability. The association also called on the Plateau state government to enhance protection for all citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds.

Babayo appealed for calm within the Fulani community, advising against retaliation and encouraging cooperation with security forces. MACBAN expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and the cattle owner, praying for the eternal rest of the deceased.
