2026 WAFCON to Determine Africa's 2027 World Cup Teams

FIFA announced that the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Scheduled from July 26 to August 16, 2026, the tournament will feature 16 teams, including Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Teams will be divided into four groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. All four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the World Cup, while the four losing quarter-finalists will compete in play-off matches to determine two additional qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Tournament.

This intercontinental play-off will include 10 nations and will take place in two phases, with the final phase in February 2027. The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held from June 24 to July 25 in Brazil.
