Edo Queens Win WAFU-B Title, Qualify for CAF League

Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), congratulated Edo Queens for winning the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title. In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ben Ogbemudia, he praised the team's achievement as a significant moment for Nigerian women’s football and Edo State.

Edo Queens secured the title after a dramatic final against Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies, which ended 2-2 after regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout where Edo Queens triumphed 4-1. Shaibu commended the players for their determination and resilience, emphasizing their ability to maintain focus under pressure.

He noted that this victory reflects the growing strength of Nigerian women’s football and serves as encouragement for young female footballers. Additionally, the win qualifies Edo Queens for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, presenting an opportunity to showcase their talent against top African clubs.

Shaibu urged the team to prepare for the continental challenge and praised the technical crew for their ongoing support.
