Wike Labels Atiku a 'Voodoo Economist' Ahead of 2027

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, publicly criticized Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, labeling him a "voodoo economist." Wike made these remarks in Abuja while addressing journalists in response to Atiku's statement regarding the fuel subsidy. Atiku claimed he would not remove the fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027, citing concerns over fraud associated with the scheme.

He urged the Nigerian government to disclose the revenue generated from the subsidy removal and its expenditures. In contrast, Wike asserted that Atiku is not a leading candidate for the upcoming election, declaring Bola Tinubu as the sole leading candidate.

Wike expressed skepticism about the opposition's ability to challenge the current government, stating, "2027 is gone because we don’t have any opposition that wants to wrestle power from the government." He criticized Atiku's inconsistency regarding the fuel subsidy, questioning his credibility.
