Atiku Abubakar Appoints Kenneth Okonkwo as Spokesperson

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, appointed Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as his spokesperson for the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made via a statement shared on Okonkwo's official X account on Thursday.

Okonkwo expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by Atiku and highlighted the importance of dialogue in addressing differing opinions. He discussed the need for the ADC to ensure that the interests of the South East are represented, especially in light of the challenges posed by the electoral act of 2026.

Okonkwo's appointment follows his public criticism of the ADC's choice for a vice presidential candidate, warning that selecting a candidate from the South South could further marginalize the South East in national politics. He acknowledged contributions from Dr.

Kashim Imam, the former ADC National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and Atiku's Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. Eken Onwuka, in strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
