Okonkwo Explains South-East Exclusion from Atiku's Ticket

Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), explained that no individual from the South-East was eligible to be Atiku Abubakar's running mate for the presidential election. He clarified that candidates must be registered members of the ADC prior to the primary elections, and since no one from the South-East met this criterion, they could not be chosen.

Okonkwo rejected the decision to select Rotimi Amaechi from the South-South as Abubakar's running mate, asserting that the party's choice should have reflected loyalty to the party and geographical representation. He emphasized that he would not campaign for Abubakar's candidacy if the running mate was not from the South-East.

During an interview on Channels TV, Okonkwo reiterated that the electoral act stipulates eligibility requirements, and many individuals from the South-East were not registered members of the ADC before the primaries.
