ASKOMP Urges Responsible Journalism Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has issued a warning to online media practitioners against permitting politicians to utilize their platforms for disseminating fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. This statement was made by ASKOMP Chairman and Publisher of The Informant247, Salihu Shola Taofeek, on Thursday, coinciding with the intensification of political activities as per the timeline from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Taofeek urged members to adhere to professional ethics and standards, stressing that online platforms should not serve as conduits for political misinformation or incitement. He called for conflict-sensitive reporting to maintain a peaceful political environment in Kwara State.

The association also encouraged online media to promote issue-based political discourse and responsible participation during the election period, emphasizing the importance of fact-checking to prevent misinformation and election-related violence.
