Atiku Abubakar Sues Tinubu Over NYSC Certificate Claims

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and current presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has initiated legal proceedings against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Federal High Court in Abuja. Atiku seeks to prevent Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election, alleging that Tinubu submitted a forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The lawsuit, filed against Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and INEC, invokes Sections 137(1)(j), 139(1)(a)(i), and 285(14)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and provisions of the Electoral Act 2026. Atiku claims that the NYSC certificate submitted by Tinubu bears a different name, “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” rather than Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He has requested INEC to produce Tinubu’s Form CF001 related to the 2023 and 2027 elections. Atiku emphasized the importance of the matter, stating that it concerns the integrity of the presidential office and the Constitution.
