INEC Boss Urged to Clarify Kogi Ward Creation Plan

Michael Samuel Idoko called for an immediate public clarification from Prof. Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), regarding a controversial proposed ward creation exercise in Kogi State. Reports suggest the proposal includes nine new wards in Ijumu, four in Mopa-Muro, six in Yagba East, four in Yagba West, four in Kabba/Bunu, and five in Okene, all benefiting Kogi West and Kogi Central senatorial districts, while Kogi East, described as the most populous district, is allegedly excluded.

Idoko emphasized that the figures have not been independently verified and urged INEC to disclose the existence of the proposal, the criteria used, and the population figures relied upon. He warned that the lack of transparency could lead to public suspicion and called for a thorough examination of demographic realities and administrative considerations across all districts.

Idoko also appealed to influential voices in Kogi West to ensure actions do not undermine Kogi East's interests.
