ADC Chieftain Urges INEC for Kogi East Representation

Comrade Usman Okai Austin, a political activist from Kogi and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure equitable representation for Kogi East Senatorial District during the ongoing creation of new electoral wards in Kogi State. In a press statement, Okai alleged that Kogi East is being marginalized in the proposed ward restructuring, which he claims disproportionately favors Kogi West and other areas.

He emphasized that the exercise should adhere to established legal and administrative parameters, including population and geographical landmass. Okai described Kogi East as the most populous and largest in landmass, urging INEC to act impartially and avoid regional favoritism.

He warned that perceived marginalization could lead to political unrest and insisted that the proposed ward distribution should undergo a comprehensive review. Okai noted that while Kogi West received several additional wards, none were allocated to the nine local government areas in Kogi East, questioning the rationale behind this distribution.
