Lagos Indigenes Demand Governorship Slot for 2027 Elections

On March 18, 2026, during a technical committee meeting, Lagos State indigenes urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reserve the governorship position for an indigenous candidate in the upcoming 2027 elections. The group expressed its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the session and signed by convenor Adesunbo Onitiri, the group emphasized the need for equity, preservation of local identity, and strengthening stakeholder participation in governance. They outlined specific criteria for aspiring candidates, including verified Lagos ancestry, strong academic and professional credentials, and proven leadership experience in either the public or private sector.

The group also stressed the importance of candidates having a clean record, free from corruption or criminal allegations, and demonstrating a commitment to societal values. They expressed readiness to engage with eligible aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections to identify and support capable candidates for the future development of Lagos State.
