Tinubu Urges Peaceful Campaigning for 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu called on political actors to refrain from violence and divisive sentiments based on ethnicity and religion as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Abuja at the signing of a peace accord, Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interest over personal ambitions.

He encouraged political parties and candidates to focus on ideas and policies that would benefit Nigerians. Tinubu acknowledged improvements in Nigeria's electoral process, particularly through technological advancements by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), such as the Permanent Voter Card and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, which have enhanced election credibility.

He noted that recent governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun states were deemed free and credible by local and foreign observers. The signing of the peace accord was described as a solemn pledge to the Nigerian people to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
