APC Chairman Calls for Early Security Measures for 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called for early security preparations for Nigeria's 2027 general elections. Speaking at the 8th edition of the Blueprint Newspapers Public Lecture and Awards Ceremony in Abuja, Yilwatda stressed that security measures should commence before political campaigns and posters become prevalent.

He identified critical areas needing focus, such as intelligence gathering, conflict mapping, effective policing, and the prosecution of electoral offenders. Yilwatda warned that insecurity could hinder citizens' voting rights and undermine the democratic process.

He asserted that security responses must be coordinated, constitutional, and impartial, with security personnel remaining loyal to the Constitution rather than individual candidates. He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot secure the electoral process alone, urging collaboration among various stakeholders, including political parties, the judiciary, and civil society.

Yilwatda accepted the Blueprint Newspapers Person of the Year award with humility, recognizing its significance beyond himself.
