Oyo Political Tension: ADC Accuses APM of Billboard Removal

The political climate in Oyo State has intensified due to a controversy surrounding the removal of campaign billboards ahead of the 2027 general elections. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are engaged in a blame game with the ruling Allied Progressive Movement (APM).

On July 18, Olooye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke, the ADC governorship candidate, accused the Oyo State government of illegally removing his billboard at Idi-Ape junction in Ibadan. Following this, on July 20, a new banner featuring Governor Seyi Makinde and APM's gubernatorial candidate, Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi, was erected in place of Adegoke's billboard.

The ADC media team stated that Adegoke had paid for the billboard's usage until August 20, 2026, and alleged that the removal occurred less than a month after renewing the contract. They suggested that Governor Makinde might feel threatened by the popularity of ADC's presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
