INEC Completes Nine Activities for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the completion of nine out of the 14 activities outlined in its timetable for the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, through Dr. Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, during a youth engagement programme in Abuja.
The event, titled “The Electorate: A Youth Dialogue with INEC,” was organized by Abuja Global Shapers Community in partnership with Nigeria Youth Futures Fund, Yiaga Africa Abuja, and Enough is Enough Nigeria. Haruna noted that significant progress has been made in implementing the electoral timetable, which includes key activities such as the announcement of elections, political party primaries, and the publication of the voters’ register and candidates’ lists.
He acknowledged complaints from political parties regarding the initial publication of candidates’ names and assured that INEC is working to address these issues. The commission has also increased the frequency of its meetings to ensure smooth preparations for the elections.
