SERAP Urges INEC to Publish Political Donation Limits

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disclose and publish the political contribution limits set by the Electoral Act, 2026, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This request was made in a statement signed by SERAP's Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, and addressed to INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, on Sunday.

SERAP highlighted the urgency of this disclosure, especially since INEC has already released the Notice of Election and the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the upcoming polls. The organization requested INEC to confirm whether it has set limits on political contributions as per section 91 of the Electoral Act, 2026, and to communicate these limits to political parties, candidates, donors, and the public.

Additionally, SERAP urged INEC to reveal its systems for monitoring compliance with political financing regulations, emphasizing the need for transparency to safeguard electoral integrity.
