Wike Backs Tinubu for 2027, Rejects APC State Support

On September 15, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated that his Rainbow Coalition is committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027, but it will not serve as a platform for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in state elections. Wike's comments were made through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, following a meeting of APC governors in Abuja.

The governors resolved to avoid political alliances that could undermine Tinubu's re-election and pledged to manage his campaign structures in their states. Wike emphasized that politicians facing challenges in their states should resolve these issues independently rather than leveraging Tinubu's presidential bid for local support.

He clarified that there was no prior agreement with the APC when he and the G5 governors supported Tinubu in the 2023 election, asserting that the Rainbow Coalition is not an alternative APC structure but a means to mobilize support for the President.
