Coalition Advocates for Peaceful Campaigns in Kano

A coalition of civil society groups, including the Center for Strategic Conflict Management and the Kano Youth Enlightenment Forum, held a press briefing in Kano on Tuesday, advocating for the suspension of mass rallies until a comprehensive security framework is in place. Mallam Abdullahi Muhammad, a representative of the coalition, expressed concern over a recent surge in violence linked to political thuggery, which threatens lives and property and undermines the electoral process.

The coalition, led by Comrade Muhammad Auwal, called for an independent investigation into recent violent incidents and emphasized the need for non-violent engagement during the electoral period. They proposed alternative campaign methods, such as small town halls and virtual outreach, to maintain voter engagement while reducing the risk of violence.

The coalition urged the Kano State government to enforce social interventions and strengthen law enforcement to address the root causes of political violence, particularly among unemployed youth. They commended Governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf for his efforts to restore security in the state.
