Coalition Calls for Suspension of Political Rallies in Kano

The Kano Civil Society Alliance, represented by Ambassador Abdullahi D. Moham, has demanded the immediate suspension of political rallies in Kano as a precautionary measure against violence.

This call comes in response to a significant increase in politically related violence attributed to political thuggery, with rival gangs reportedly being funded by politicians during the election period. The coalition expressed alarm over the frequency of clashes between armed thugs, which have resulted in fatalities and threats to public safety.

Despite the government's 2025 amnesty offer for the rehabilitation of 1,300 repentant thugs, threats to democratic stability in Kano persist. The coalition has urged authorities to suspend political rallies similar to the suspension of Sallah Durbar to maintain law and order until a comprehensive security framework is established.

They recommend holding town hall meetings in smaller venues to ensure safety.
