Ogun APC Faces Crisis with Two Rival Candidates for 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is experiencing significant internal strife as two candidates, Solomon Adeola and Abayomi Hunye, have both laid claim to the party's governorship ticket for the 2027 election, leading to parallel campaign launches. This crisis stems from dissatisfaction with the party's consensus arrangement, which was intended to unify candidates across various levels, including the governorship and legislative seats.

The arrangement has left several aspirants, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo's daughter, Prof Iyabo Obasanjo, feeling aggrieved, prompting her departure to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where she secured a ticket for the Ogun Central Senatorial District. Additionally, former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel faced resistance in his bid for the APC senatorial ticket, which was awarded to the current governor, Dapo Abiodun.
