Tension Rises in Ogun APC Over 2027 Governorship Race

On August 22, 2023, Abayomi Semako Hunye, a former governorship aspirant and immediate past Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, announced Abayomi Odunowo as his deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement came after Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun had declared Olamilekan Solomon Adeola as the party's consensus candidate during a caucus meeting on April 13, 2023.

Hunye, who did not attend this meeting, later obtained a governorship nomination form, which was acquired on his behalf for N50 million. However, during the primary election held in May, Adeola received 304,055 votes, while Hunye received no votes.

Adeola expressed gratitude to former Governor Olusegun Osoba and Governor Dapo Abiodun for their support. Following Adeola's endorsement, Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun was announced as his deputy governorship candidate.

Hunye's campaign organization rejected the primary election results.
