HURIWA Critiques Use of International Media Against Tinubu

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned attempts by certain political actors to deploy international media platforms as tools against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. HURIWA's National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, addressed newsmen in Abuja, highlighting credible suggestions of a documentary-style product aimed at damaging the reputation of the current government.

Preliminary indications suggest that top members of the Federal Executive Council are the principal targets of this reputational offensive. While HURIWA supports investigative journalism as a cornerstone of democracy, it cautions against the potential weaponization of such reports for political ends, particularly when they may lack substantial verification.

Onwubiko expressed deep concern over the growing global trend of manipulating information during electoral cycles, warning that Nigeria must not become vulnerable to such tactics as it approaches the 2027 elections.
