INEC and KAS Strengthen Partnership for Electoral Technology

On August 21, 2026, in Abuja, Prof Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), acknowledged the longstanding partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) during a courtesy visit from Mr Moritz Sprenker, the newly appointed Country Representative of KAS. Prof Amupitan commended KAS for its contributions to constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and good governance globally.

He highlighted past collaborations, including technical retreats in Uyo and Lagos that aided INEC's preparations for the Osun election. The strategic priorities for future collaboration with KAS include civic education, electoral technology, institutional capacity building, countering misinformation, inclusivity for marginalized groups, and fostering interagency dialogue for peaceful electoral processes.

Mr Sprenker noted KAS's active presence in over 100 countries and its 25 years of work in Nigeria, recalling a capacity-building workshop held with INEC in Lagos in March 2026. He expressed KAS's commitment to strengthening its partnership with INEC.
