INEC Prepares for 2027 Elections, Emphasizes Integrity

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun preparations for the 2027 general elections, with Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan urging officials to focus on institutional integrity, administrative discipline, and effective coordination. During a two-day strategic operational workshop in Lagos for the commission’s Administrative Secretaries, Amupitan stressed that the credibility of elections relies on the commitment and integrity of the officials implementing electoral laws.

He encouraged participants to learn from past elections to improve operations for the upcoming polls. Amupitan described Administrative Secretaries as vital to maintaining continuity and enforcing discipline at the state level.

He clarified that the Chief Accounting Officer role remains with the INEC chairman, not distributed among state structures. Continuous training for administrative personnel was also emphasized to enhance technical proficiency.

The workshop, in collaboration with DAI and EU-SDGN, aims to strengthen coordination between state leadership and INEC’s electoral objectives, contributing to improved operational preparedness ahead of the 2027 elections.
