INEC Extends Deadline for Governorship Candidates Submission

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, announced an extension of the deadline for the submission of governorship candidates to Tuesday, August 11, 2026. This decision was made in response to appeals from political parties seeking additional time to complete their submissions via INEC's online portal.

Furthermore, INEC has suspended the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Osun State in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for August 15. Voters who have applied for replacements of lost, damaged, or defaced PVCs must print downloadable copies by midnight Sunday.

The PVC collection process began at the Registration Area level from July 22 to 28, 2026, and was extended to July 31 due to complaints about crowding. The exercise then moved to the local government level from August 1 to 7.

INEC assured voters that stolen cards from Odo-Otin and Ife Central local government areas could not be used to vote.
