INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline to July 14, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved an extension for the submission of lists of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. The new deadline is set for midnight on July 14, 2026, having been originally scheduled for July 11, 2026.

This decision was communicated by Mohammed Haruna, the chairman of the voter education committee, in a statement issued on Sunday. The extension was made in response to appeals from the Inter-Party Advisory Council, representing political parties that were unable to upload the names of their candidates within the initial timeline.

INEC emphasized the importance of ensuring inclusivity and urged political parties to take advantage of this opportunity to upload the necessary details before the new deadline expires.
