INEC Projects Over 100 Million Voters for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) projected that Nigeria’s voter register will surpass 100 million ahead of the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made on Tuesday in Abuja by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.

He noted that the previous register had over 93 million voters, with the Continuous Voter Registration exercise expected to increase this number. Haruna highlighted the challenges this growth presents in logistics, technology, security, and public communication.

With 151 days until the first phase of the elections, he urged INEC information officers to initiate aggressive public enlightenment campaigns. He stressed the importance of clear communication and a thorough understanding of relevant laws and guidelines.

INEC Chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, emphasized the need for proactive public engagement to combat misinformation and enhance voter turnout, while also ensuring inclusivity for all eligible citizens.
