INEC Reveals 19 Presidential Candidates for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the personal particulars and credentials of 19 presidential candidates and their running mates in preparation for the 2027 elections. The official commencement of the presidential campaign was marked on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

The presidential candidates include President Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar from the African Democratic Congress, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi from the Nigeria Democratic Congress, among others. INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are set for February 6, 2027.

The published list adheres to the Electoral Act, allowing public scrutiny of the candidates' credentials. Additionally, there are 127 candidates from 18 political parties vying for governorship positions across 28 states, with the APC and PDP each presenting 28 candidates.
